Mo Hayder

Downloaded and read Ritual: A Novel last night.

Ms. Hayder's writing style reminds me of something I've read in a fanfiction, somewhere. Couldn't tell you which author, couldn't even nail down which fandom. I'm not saying I think she's a fanfiction writer, although that wouldn't surprise me, just that when I read her novels... they have a quality about them which makes me think I've come across something similar online.

The style she uses and character interactions are atypical of the 'crime/horror' genre, which is the main reason I keep reading her books. The plots aren't really that clever (standard misdirection) and she always has a predictable 'ew' factor (mangled body parts and/or bizarre imagery)... but I dig her writing style.



Good Times Gone, the DA2 fic, had another bobble. The things I thought I had nailed down? More like screwed up. Another 3am chapter enema. Ah, well.

Kitteh Arc

I love how TV has made 'normal' for ex-snipers to own high powered rifles. Like they're a part of standard military service discharge. Here's your stamp, here's your rifle, have a great day. (Okay, granted... I've never known any snipers... but I know the Army. Big on paperwork. Not so much handing out of walking PR nightmares (other than their own soldiers, but don't get me started).)

Yes, I know... he could have purchased it, but it's still a cliche.

Oh, could we please be beat over the head some more with Mikey being a big brother type? Please? I miss the guy who popped the guards in the bathroom during the Premiere.



Main Arc

A more detailed Kitteh Plot allowed for just a dribble of Main Arc... don't think I don't see what you're doing, PTB!! I hate when I feel the manipulation. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

I like the new Tough Chick well enough. (Hate that they used 'pit bulls' in this context, but this is another thing I won't get started about.)

Love Fi and Jesse riffing off of each other. These two characters are an absolute riot together.

Um... and that's it, I think. Still hanging in there...
